Ms. Campbell has been a physician assistant for over 5 years now and is a Pittsburgh Native.
She attended California University where she majored in Athletic Training and was a collegiate volleyball player. She obtained her masters at Lock Haven University in Health Sciences with a Certification for Surgical Physician Assistant.
As an athletic trainer and college athlete, she is uniquely qualified to care for athletes and orthopaedic patients. Her compassion and exceptional care have been a key contributor to the success and excellent outcomes of our patients.
Education:
Dr. Akhavan completed his Bachelor of Science at Northwestern University where he specialized in Biomedical Engineering. He completed his medical school at Northwestern Univervisity Medical School where he was part of the Honors Program in Medical Education.
Training:
Dr. Akhavan performed his surgical internship at Case Medical Center in Cleveland, OH. He then dedicated a year to biomechanical research looking at the properties of cortical bone after obtaining the prestigious Allen Research Fellowship. He completed his orthopaedic residency at Case Medical Center, one of the top orthopaedic training programs in the country.
Specialized Training:
Dr. Akhavan completed a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, specializing in complex arthroscopic management of knee and shoulder injuries. During his time at the Clinic, he had the opportunity to work with several professional teams, including the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians.
Dr. Akhavan has published multiple papers and book chapters and has over 50 international, national and local presentations. His list of titles include
1) Director of the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship, Allegheny Sports Medicine
2) Director of Orthopaedic Research, Allegheny General Hospital
3) Assistant Professor, Drexel University
4) Associate Program Director, Allegheny General Hospital Residency.

Dr. Akhavan currently serves as a team physician for USA Rugby, the Pittsburgh Pirates (MLB), Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL Soccer), Pittsburgh Harlequins (Rugby), Pittsburgh Angels (Rugby), Pittsburgh Rugby Club, Pittsbugh Force (Women's Full Contact Football). He also is the team physician for the Northgate and Avonworth school districts.
